Haringey Libraries Launch Packed Programme for LGBTQ+ History Month

Haringey Council has announced an extensive programme of LGBTQ+ History Month events across its libraries and cultural venues this February, featuring everything from film screenings to historical walking tours.

Hornsey Library takes center stage with weekly film screenings throughout February, including advance showings of anticipated releases like “All of Us Strangers” and “Love Lies Bleeding.” The library will also host local queer historical fiction author Carmella Lowkis for a reading and Q&A session of her debut novel “Spitting Gold” on February 24.

A highlight of the programme is the “Walking with Pride” tour on February 23, led by Bruce Castle Museum curator Deborah Hedgecock. The two-hour historical walking tour will explore LGBTQ+ heritage between Turnpike Lane and Finsbury Park, offering insights into the borough’s diverse history.

For younger community members, Bruce Castle Museum is hosting specialized zine-making workshops, with sessions tailored for different age groups. Wood Green Library continues its commitment to community support with a free LGBTQ+ drop-in service for those aged 16 and over.

The month’s activities extend beyond LGBTQ+ programming, with Wood Green Library hosting a health and wellness event on February 18, while Marcus Garvey Library launches a five-week spoken word poetry course for young people. Art enthusiasts can enjoy exhibitions at Hornsey Library’s Original Gallery, featuring Sky Arts’ Portrait Artist of the Year semi-finalists Rosie Phillips and Jenna Waldren.

All events are open to the public, though some require advance registration. Full programme details are available through Haringey’s library website.
