Haringey Secures £937k for School Holiday Programme to Support Local Families

Thousands of Haringey children will benefit from free holiday activities and meals throughout 2025, as the council secures nearly £1 million in government funding for its Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme.

The £937,710 grant will provide free holiday camp places and family outings for children eligible for free school meals during Easter, Summer and Winter breaks. The programme, supported by the Department for Education, will offer activities and nutritious meals to young people aged 5 to 16.

Last summer’s programme reached over 2,600 children, including 320 with special educational needs, serving more than 15,000 free meals. The initiative brings together local schools, community organizations, and childcare providers to create inclusive environments where young people can make friends and try new activities.

“We are incredibly proud of the impact the HAF programme has had on our community,” says Cllr Zena Brabazon, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools, and Families. “The additional funding will allow us to reach even more families, ensuring that every child has access to enriching activities and nutritious food during the holidays.”

The programme aims to support children’s academic achievement, develop social skills, and boost self-esteem while ensuring no child goes hungry during school breaks. This expansion of holiday provision comes as part of Haringey Council’s broader commitment to supporting young people and families across the borough.

Families can find out more about the programme and check their eligibility through the council’s website.
