William shocked by death of ex-nanny’s stepson in New Orleans attack

The Prince of Wales and Catherine were deeply saddened to learn about the tragic death of Edward Pettifer, the stepson of his former nanny, Alexandra “Tiggy” Pettifer. Edward was among the 14 victims of a vehicle attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day. Prince William expressed his condolences, stating that their thoughts and prayers are with the Pettifer family and all those affected by the horrific attack. King Charles has also reached out to Mr. Pettifer’s family to offer his support during this difficult time. The New Orleans attack, which occurred on January 1st, was carried out by a 42-year-old US Army veteran who drove a pick-up truck into crowds on Bourbon Street. He was subsequently shot dead by the police. The New Orleans coroner determined that Mr. Pettifer’s cause of death was due to blunt force injuries. In a tribute to Edward, his family described him as a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend. Prince Harry has been informed about the tragedy but has chosen not to make any public comments. The suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, is believed to have acted alone in what the FBI described as a premeditated and evil act. A flag of the Islamic State group was found inside the vehicle, along with two improvised explosive devices nearby. The attack resulted in the death of other individuals, including a well-known American college football player, a young aspiring nurse, and a mother of a four-year-old. At least 39 people were injured, with some still receiving treatment in the ICU. Mr. Pettifer, a resident of Chelsea, London, was identified as one of the victims by the Metropolitan Police. His family has requested privacy to grieve their loss and expressed their sympathy to the other families affected by the attack. Foreign Secretary David Lammy also expressed his sadness and extended his support to the British victim’s family, emphasizing solidarity with the US against terrorist threats. Alexandra “Tiggy” Pettifer began working for King Charles in 1993 when he was the Prince of Wales. She played a significant role in the lives of Prince William and Prince Harry after the separation of Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales. Tiggy often accompanied the young princes on vacations and provided support to help them cope with the loss of their mother. In 1999, she married security consultant Charles Pettifer in a private ceremony in Wales, attended by William and Harry.

A writer who loves all things British.
