Gritters blocked in by ‘200 cars’ in Peak District

Approximately 200 vehicles have caused a hindrance to the gritting process along a stretch of the Peak District. Derbyshire County Council officials confirmed that gritting crews were unable to pass through Rushup Edge and Mam Nick due to double parking on Saturday morning, near Edale. The highways authority has requested drivers to avoid adding to the existing issues on these roads. The council acknowledges the public’s desire to experience the beauty of the Peak District, but the council’s statement states that the present parking conditions are making the job of the gritters rather difficult. As a result of the frigid temperatures paired with heavy snowfall, travel disruptions have plagued roads throughout northern Derbyshire this week. Several highways being closed in Derbyshire currently include Goyts Lane near Buxton, Rylah Hill in Palterton, Back Lane in Youlgrave and Curbar Lane, Curbar.
