60 Years of Alpina: Milestone Anniversary to Headline Ultimate BMW Meet at British Motor Museum

The beloved Alpina brand will take center stage at this year’s Ultimate BMW Meet, as enthusiasts gather to celebrate its 60th anniversary during what has become the UK’s largest gathering of BMW vehicles. Set against the backdrop of the British Motor Museum in Gaydon on Sunday, April 27, the event arrives at a pivotal moment in BMW’s history following the automaker’s acquisition of the storied tuning company.

For BMW aficionados, this fourth annual event represents more than just another car show—it’s a reunion of the BMW community in all its diverse glory. From the understated elegance of classic E30s to the technological marvel of the latest M-powered machines, the gathering promises to showcase the full spectrum of the Bavarian marque’s evolution.

“The timing couldn’t be more significant,” explains Richard Bennett, president of the UK BMW Heritage Club. “With Alpina now under BMW’s corporate umbrella, we’re witnessing the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. This anniversary gives us a chance to celebrate Alpina’s legacy while contemplating its future direction.”

Last year’s event drew an impressive turnout of over 1,000 BMWs, with more than 30 dedicated car clubs bringing everything from daily drivers to meticulously restored classics and rare limited editions that rarely see the light of day. Organizers expect an even larger showing this year, driven by the Alpina anniversary and the ever-growing BMW enthusiast community.

Beyond the field of privately owned vehicles, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the museum’s permanent collection, which features over 400 historic British cars. Of particular interest to BMW fans is the 1928 BMW Dixi—presented to the Rover Group in 1994 to commemorate their partnership—offering a tangible connection to the early days of the brand that would eventually become a global automotive powerhouse.

The event has quickly established itself as a must-attend gathering for BMW owners across the UK. What began as a relatively modest meeting has transformed into a comprehensive celebration of all things BMW, drawing enthusiasts from across the country and even parts of continental Europe.

“Every year we see the community grow,” says Tom Caren, Show Manager at the British Motor Museum. “The passion these owners have for their cars is infectious, and the knowledge sharing that happens at these events is invaluable. Whether you’re a die-hard buff or just admire the badge, this meet promises to be an unforgettable day of BMW appreciation.”

For those planning to attend, it’s worth noting that this event falls on one of the museum’s Annual Pass Exempt Days. While Members and Premium Members retain their free entry privilege, standard annual passes and promotional vouchers won’t be valid for this special event.

Advance tickets are priced at £17 for adults, £9 for children, £15 for concessions, and family packages are available at £46 for four people or £52 for families of five.

If previous years are any indication, visitors would be wise to arrive early. The combination of the Alpina anniversary, the ever-growing BMW community, and the opportunity to see hundreds of meticulously maintained vehicles in one location is expected to draw record attendance to this celebration of Bavarian automotive excellence.
