West End veteran Jon Robyns leads an impressive cast in “Figaro: An Original Musical,” which receives its world premiere at the London Palladium next month. The production, featuring music by streaming sensation Ashley Jana, marks an ambitious new entry in London’s musical theatre scene.
Robyns, known for iconic roles in “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Les Misérables,” takes the title role alongside Olivier Award nominee Aimie Atkinson, famous for her portrayal of Katherine Howard in “Six: The Musical.” The cast also includes Coronation Street’s Daniel Brocklebank and Broadway performer Cayleigh Capaldi making her West End debut.
The musical tells the story of Sienna, a young woman whose dreams of becoming a singer lead her into the world of travelling performers, where she meets the mysterious Figaro. The production promises to blend romance and mystery in what creators describe as a “hauntingly beautiful tale.”
The creative team brings impressive credentials, with Tony and Grammy Award-winning producers Michael Lamon and Van Dean at the helm. Dean’s recent credits include the acclaimed “Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club” and the upcoming Jennifer Lopez film “Kiss of the Spider Woman.”
Jana, whose music has garnered over 60 million streams online, collaborated with award-winning director Will Nunziata on the book. Nunziata’s recent off-Broadway success “White Rose: The Musical” is set for a UK premiere later this year.
The show will run for two concert performances on February 3rd and 4th, 2025, at the London Palladium. Despite the limited run, producers hint at bigger plans for the production’s future.
