Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hosted a poignant Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, bringing together Haringey’s diverse community to remember victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.

The civic ceremony, which drew attendees from across the borough’s multi-faith communities, featured powerful speeches from local leaders and included special musical performances by students. Spurs ambassador Gary Mabbutt and Council Leader Peray Ahmet delivered moving addresses, while Foreign Secretary David Lammy MP participated via video message.

Students from St Francis de Sales School Choir performed John Lennon’s “Imagine,” accompanied by talented pianists Emily Moldoveanu and Jasmine Tran from the London Academy of Excellence Tottenham. The event’s keynote speaker, Helen Stone, presented on “Courage, Kindness & Candles,” engaging in a Q&A session with students from local schools including Gladesmore Community School and Haringey Sixth Form College.

Local MPs Catherine West and Bambos Charalambous joined Deputy Mayor of London Joanne McCartney in addressing the gathering. The ceremony concluded with Councillor Sheila Peacock leading attendees in affirming seven Statements of Commitment, followed by prayers from various faith representatives.

Councillor Mark Grosskopf, Chair of Haringey’s Holocaust Memorial Day Committee and Cabinet Champion for Communities, opened and closed the ceremony. The event, hosted by Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, demonstrated the borough’s commitment to remembering the six million Jews murdered during World War Two and victims of other genocides.

The ceremony highlighted the importance of education and remembrance in preventing future atrocities, bringing together generations of Haringey residents in a show of unity and respect.
