Afternoon Tea

Top Cornish Hotel Stages Luxury Afternoon Tea for Platinum Jubilee

As the country prepares to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s remarkable 70-year reign next month, one of Cornwall’s top hotels is hosting a luxurious Jubilee Afternoon Tea.

The Headland, Newquay’s five-star clifftop hotel, is offering a limited-edition Afternoon Tea which will enable guests to enjoy this most quintessentially British pastime.

Treat your family, friend or partner to a regal dining experience, in which you can admire sweeping ocean views in effortless, relaxed grandeur.

Veryan Palmer, director, said: “We’d love diners to join us for this momentous occasion in history, which means you can eat and drink in style with the people who matter most.”

“We have adapted the menu to reflect The Queen’s longevity and stature, including Coronation chicken and Victoria sponge. It promises to be a truly memorable summer of celebration.”

Other sandwiches besides Coronation chicken include classics such as cucumber and cream cheese and poached salmon, dill mayonnaise and lemon, whilst there is also a mouth-watering sundried tomato, basil and Cornish cheddar quiche.

Desserts include strawberry trifle, raspberry macaron and Jubilee shortbread biscuit, but the star of the show is The Queen’s chocolate biscuit cake, described by royal chef and former personal chef to The Queen, Darren McGrady, as Her Majesty’s “favourite cake by far”.

For those fancying a tipple to toast her 70-year reign, there is also a delicious selection of cocktails. The Platinum Martini mixes HM-appointed gin, Lillet 1872 and edible platinum, whilst the Duketh Kernow combines London style gin, orgeat, sherbet and Earl Grey.

Other mouth-watering options include The Headland Fruit Cup and the Chandon Garden Spritz.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Tea runs every day until June 30th (2pm-4pm).

On Saturday, June 4 there is a special chance to join the hotel’s Big Afternoon Tea in the ballroom, where guests will be welcomed to celebrate the historic occasion.

Family and friends are invited to dine on large communal tables whilst watching The Queen’s Platinum Party live from London.
