Haringey Students Celebrate A-Level, BTEC and Vocational Results Success

Students across Haringey are celebrating an impressive set of results following the release of A-level, BTEC and vocational qualification grades on 13 August 2026, with young people from the north London borough securing places at leading universities, apprenticeships and training programmes.

Councillor Georgia Twigg, Cabinet Member for Children and Schools at Haringey Council, visited Fortismere School in the borough to congratulate students and staff on their achievements. Fortismere, a well-regarded comprehensive school in Muswell Hill, was among the institutions marking the day with celebrations as pupils opened their results.

Across London, A-level attainment remained strong, with 32.7 per cent of entries achieving A* or A grades. A record number of students across the capital also secured places at their first-choice universities, reflecting a competitive but ultimately successful year for many school leavers.

Council Praises Resilience and Ambition

Cllr Twigg used the occasion to pay tribute to the efforts of students, teaching staff and families throughout the borough. “This is a day of celebration and pride for Haringey,” she said. “I want to congratulate every student receiving their results and recognise the tremendous effort, perseverance and dedication that have brought them to this moment.”

She added: “It has been inspiring to meet students today and hear about their aspirations for the future. Their success shows what is possible when ambition is matched by hard work and supported by outstanding teachers, staff and families. Together, they have created the foundations for a bright and successful future.”

Cllr Twigg also highlighted the broader significance of the results for the local community. “Our young people are among Haringey’s greatest strengths. They are talented, resilient and full of potential, and I have every confidence that they will go on to make a positive impact in their communities, their professions and wider society. We are incredibly proud of them all and wish them every success as they take their next steps.”

Support Available for Students

Haringey is one of London’s more diverse and economically varied boroughs, stretching from the more affluent areas of Muswell Hill and Crouch End to areas such as Tottenham, which face significant socioeconomic challenges. Strong educational outcomes in such boroughs are particularly significant, as they can play a meaningful role in addressing inequality and broadening opportunities for young people from all backgrounds.

A-level results day is a pivotal moment in the academic calendar, with students discovering whether they have met the conditions of university offers made through the UCAS system, or whether they need to explore Clearing — the process by which remaining university places are filled. Results in BTEC and other vocational qualifications, released on the same day, are equally important for those pursuing technical and skills-based routes into employment or further education.

The council has signalled its ongoing commitment to supporting young people beyond results day. Students seeking guidance following their results can access support through their schools and colleges, as well as through the council’s youth services. Additional employment and skills support is available through Haringey Works, the council’s dedicated employment support service, which assists residents with job searching, skills development and access to training opportunities.

Haringey Council said it remains committed to ensuring every young person in the borough has the opportunity, encouragement and support needed to achieve their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances.
