Christmas Comes Early at Coughton Court as Festive Tickets Go on Sale

Christmas may feel a long way off, but Coughton Court in Alcester, Warwickshire, is already preparing for its most magical season of the year. The historic Tudor country house has put tickets on sale for a packed programme of festive events running from late November through to 23rd December.

From Wednesday 25th November, the house will be transformed with seasonal decorations and displays inspired by the traditions of the Throckmorton family, who have owned the estate for more than 600 years and continue to manage it today. The grounds and gardens will also be illuminated throughout the festive period, offering visitors a striking backdrop for an evening outing.

Santa Visits, Wassail and a Christmas Fete

Families looking for something a little more immersive can book tickets for the ‘Evening with Santa’ events, scheduled for 27th November, 3rd December and 9th December. Each evening includes a meet and greet with Father Christmas, music from a local choir, and seasonal refreshments including hot chocolate, mulled wine and mince pies. Tickets are priced at £8 for children and £3.50 for adults.

Father Christmas will also be appearing on select dates throughout December. Entry to the house during weekends in December requires a pre-booked timed slot, available between 11am and 3pm. Adult tickets are priced at £12.50, children’s tickets at £5, with both including access to the house and garden. Families wishing to meet Father Christmas can book that experience for £25 per child, which includes a gift.

On Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December, the estate will host a Christmas Fete, bringing together local makers, food and drink producers and seasonal gift stalls — an opportunity to pick up handmade or artisan gifts in a historic setting.

A traditional Festive Wassail is planned for Saturday 12th December. Wassailing is an ancient English custom with roots stretching back to the medieval period, traditionally associated with blessing orchards and celebrating the harvest. At Coughton Court, the event will feature entertainment, festive activities and seasonal refreshments.

Pantomime Closes the Season

The festive programme concludes on Wednesday 23rd December with a family pantomime performed by local theatre company Aunty Jen Productions — a fitting finale to what promises to be a busy couple of months at the property.

Imogen Birch Throckmorton, who manages the family estate alongside her husband Magnus, said:

A writer who loves all things British.
