York’s Visitor Information Centre has opened at a new city centre address, offering visitors an improved gateway to one of England’s most popular tourist destinations. The centre, operated by Make It York under the Visit York brand, has moved from its former home at 21 Parliament Street to 28 Back Swinegate — a distance of just 140 metres, or under two minutes on foot.

The relocation, which took effect on 5 August 2026, brings the centre to a premises described as more welcoming and better suited to showcasing the breadth of York’s attractions. The new site, carrying the postcode YO1 8AD, retains the seven-days-a-week opening hours that visitors have long relied upon.

What the New Centre Offers

The upgraded space provides improved facilities alongside a wider area to display information on the city’s many attractions and experiences. Visitors can collect free maps, guides and brochures, purchase tickets for attractions, transport and experiences, and buy the Visit York Pass — the city’s dedicated sightseeing card that grants entry to a range of York’s museums, historic sites and tours. The centre also features a curated selection of locally made gifts and souvenirs through its on-site gift shop.
